"I really enjoyed working collaboratively and solving scale problems.  I'm currently doing that in as VP of Engineering Operations at Klaviyo - with the consulting business (mostly) in hibernation mode. Although I still enjoy talking about how to solve scaling problems!"

Some of the organizations where Jim has built & shipped solutions include:

VP Engineering Operations
If you aren't familiar with the term engineering operations, it's not about running technical operations; it is about purposefully working on our organization and systems to create better ways of working together - and to create great outcomes for our customers - pretty much what I like doing best at work!

Amazon_Alexa.jpg

As a Single Threaded Owner at Amazon Jim led the teams in Cambridge, MA that made Alexa smarter for customers by answering more of their questions. Jim built and owned many of the runtime services powering Alexa's information experiences. These teams included software engineers and scientists (with a strong machine learning background) to build customer facing experiences. At Amazon you run what you build (at an incredibly high scale with rigorous operational and security standards).
Jim is extremely proud of the progress made in growing a diverse team in a remote office.

As SVP of Global Engineering at Endurance Jim led software engineering for all mainline brands and divisions, powering solutions for over 5 million customers using Web Hosting, Domain Management, and Email Marketing. This team was comprised of over 400 engineers in 11 worldwide development centers.

Jim provided executive support for team empowered improvement initiatives, including AGILE practices and collaboration across engineering centers.

Jim also owned Information Security and attestation on 3rd party audits (PCI).

- Dramatic improvement in AGILE practices

Iron Mountain.jpg

Jim joined Iron Mountain shortly after their IPO and took on many technology leadership roles as he helped grow  company revenue from $75 Million to $3 Billion over his 14 year tenure. Key accomplishments included building out the technical infrastructure for a multi-billion dollar public company, and building the first digital offerings within a "bricks and mortar" organization. Jim also oversaw technical due diligence and internal intellectual property management at the company.
